Before blogs, tweets, RSS feeds, and 24/7 news cycles, Inside Healthcare Computing burst onto the healthcare information technology scene with a provocative mix of news, opinion, and rumor. There wasn’t anything like it back then and its in-your-face coverage of vendor shenanigans, failed implementations, and deals gone sour was viewed as a refreshing alternative to the typical puff pieces in the other industry magazines.
Twenty years later, we’re still in business and going strong, despite the proliferation of free information sources out there that many times, seem more concerned with their pay-per-click revenue than bringing readers real unbiased news and best practices. We continue to be the only advertising-free, independent source of industry news and information out there.
Rather than merely reprinting press releases or relying on vendor-written system reviews, our team of writers go out and proactively search for the stories we feel will give our readers the best information on the issues that are most important to them, whether it’s how to select an EMR or CPOE system or how to find a clear path through the ARRA maze. Put simply, we ask the questions our readers would ask.
In addition to our regular coverage of industry news, we’ve focused a lot of space in the past few years on implementation success stories, told from the perspective of those actually responsible for the success. From my perspective as publisher, talking with those folks and being able to share those successes with our readers is one of the most fun and rewarding parts of my job.
The Inside Healthcare Computing blog is a new venture for us and an opportunity for me to share with you some of the things that don’t always make it into our publication. On the flip side, I’m looking forward to hearing your thoughts and comments on the industry, our coverage, the issues you’re facing and what’s happening in your hospital or physician practice.
